1805 The first white men from the Lewis and Clark expedition view the Yakima Valley

1847 Catholic Mission establishes in the Ahtanum area

1850's Permanent parties of settlers begin to arrive

1858 Army garrison establishes at Ft. Simcoe (38 miles southwest of Yakima) and military units arrive to quell Indian hostilities

1865 Yakima County officially established

1870 Census accounts for 432 pioneers in Yakima County

1880 Nearly 3,000 people reported in Yakima county

1884 Northern Pacific extends its iron-horse service to the Yakima Valley

1886 (January 27) North Yakima incorporated and named the county seat

1889 (January 27) Water mains, fire plugs and hydrants installed to sell water to the residents (December 15) Sunset Telephone Company begins operations

1890 (September 4) Electricity turns on

1891 (June 11) Electric light and water works companies consolidate

1900 Nearly 15,000 residents live in the area

1910 The properties of Yakima Water, Light & Power sold

1907 Organization for the first street car system begins. The Great Depression begins

1908 System reorganized under the Yakima Valley Transportation Company

1909 Sold to the North Coast Railroad Company

1913 Water and power system segregate from one another

1918 The prefix "North" was dropped from the city name
