Yakima Tourist Attractions
Visitors from all over the world have discovered one of the Northwest's leading attractions in the many historical murals located in Toppenish. At the end of the 1994 mural painting season, Toppenish had over 34 of the large outdoor murals depicting the area's history and heritage from 1850 to 1920.
The spectacular progress of the Toppenish Mural Society even caught the attention of the Washington State Tourism Department, which chose Toppenish to receive its Georgie Award in 1991 for the "most important contribution to Washington's tourism industry in the past five years." The organization also received the Governor's Art Award in 1993 for a significant contribution to the arts and culture of the State of Washington.
The murals, some more than 100 feet long, are painted by the Northwest's top western artists. Visitor guides and mural tour maps are available at many Toppenish businesses, at the Mural Society Visitor's Center and Chamber of Commerce offices, and at the Yakima Valley Visitor's and Convention Bureau. Narrated wagon ride tours in true western style are also available.
